Dales farmers prove they care at Bakewell event

FARMERS will be learning how to use their facilities to help people with health problems at a workshop in Bakewell.

The one-day event, focusing on caring farming, will take place at the Agricultural Business Centre on Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

Information about horticultural, agricultural or animal therapy and the benefits of Care Farming will be on offer.

Nick Platt, a workshop leader said: "We have some examples of farms that have used their facilities to help provide meaningful and therapeutic opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, those recovering from illness or mental health issues, those who have been excluded from school, or who do not do well in a normal educational framework."

Julie White one of the course facilitators added: "We have speakers who have first hand experience of running a Care Farm, and look forward to helping people explore ideas for funding and create plans to help their existing businesses develop.

"We will also be exploring the differing needs of various client groups and tackling heath and safety in a common sense way."
