Derbyshire police receive more complaints
Complaints about Derbyshire police have risen by 15 per cent in the last year, new data shows.
According to figures from the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), the force received 581 grievances during 2011-12 – compared with 506 the previous year.
But police said the rise could be because more people felt ‘confident’ that by complaining their issue would be resolved.
Superintendent Richard Oldknow, head of professional standards at Derbyshire police, explained: “Although we have seen a 15 per cent increase in recorded complaints, more than one third of complaints are resolved using the Local Resolution process – significantly above the national average.
“I believe that the increase and the level of LR suggest that the public have confidence in our ability to resolve their complaints at a local level.”
He added: “It remains a concern that any member of the Derbyshire public is dissatisfied with the service they have received, and our aim is to provide a high quality policing service to the public of Derbyshire.”
The IPCC found that 58 per cent of inquiries took more than the recommended ten working days to be recorded.
