Distraction phone thefts

POLICE have issued a warning to businesses and shoppers after several reports of thieves using distraction techniques to steal mobile phones.

In most cases, two males have been entering shop premises, engaging in conversation and purporting to give out flyers.

The two men, who have been described as Asian, wave the flyers around and then place them on top of the victims mobile phone – with the intention of picking up the flyers and the stealing the phone.

Other incidents have been reported recently by estate agents, hair salons and pubs in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales.

A police spokesman said: “Please look after your mobile phone and report any suspicious activity to the business or to the police.”

Anybody with information on these crimes should call 101 and quote 44289/12.
