District nurse awarded for commitment to NHS

A Dales nurse has been presented with a top award for her exemplary commitment to raising standards.

Tracy Steadman, of Matlock, was presented with the Queen’s Nursing Award at a ceremony in London.

To be considered for the honour, the district nursing team leader had to write an essay outlining examples of her best practice and describing her vision for the future of nursing.

Her application for the award was supported by her manager at Derbyshire Health United (DHU) and by two of her colleagues.

Tracy, 41, was accompanied by her parents upon receiving the award.

She said: “I was thrilled to be chosen for the award, and it was great to receive my certificate and badge in the presence of mum and dad, who had travelled from their Bournemouth home for the occasion.”

DHU chief executive Lindsey Wallis added: “Tracy always provides outstanding leadership to her team and care to her patients, some of whom have life-limiting illnesses.

“Her care enables patients to live comfortably and with dignity at home, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award.”

Tracy, based in Scarsdale, Chesterfield, will now have to write an annual report explaining what she has done to uphold the standards expected of recipients.

She has three children aged 12, seven and six.
