Dove Holes development banned from expanding

Plans to double the number of homes on a Dove Holes development from 58 to 120 have been rejected by the council, to the relief of villagers.

Ten out of 11 councillors voted to refuse the application for land to the rear of Hallsteads at High Peak Borough Council’s development control committee meeting in Chapel-en-le-Frith on Monday.

The proposal, submitted by Jonathan Critchlow, of Jalo Enterprises, of Thailand, in November, relates to a site bordered by The Meadows housing estate, Black Brook and former quarry Ridgeclose Rocks.

The original application was approved by the committee in September.

The authority received seven letters of objection on the grounds that the existing infrastructure could not support the development, the impact on the countryside and the lack of facilities in the village.

Resident Alison Beeson urged councillors to reject the application as it would increase the village population by a quarter and put 200 more vehicles on the roads.

The applicant confirmed he would be appealing the decision.
