Duke of Devonshire signs up to support NHS trust

The Duke of Devonshire has shown his support for local NHS care – by signing up as a member of Derbyshire Community Health Services’ newly emerging Foundation Trust.

The Duke has also spoken publicly about his respect for the care received by patients looked after by Derbyshire Community Health Services, including at Cavendish Hospital where he opened the new roof garden last year.

A recording of the Duke’s message has been placed on the Trust’s website, to coincide with elections which will see a new Council of Governors appointed in the countdown to the Trust becoming a fully-fledged Foundation Trust in the Spring.

Trust Chair Andrew Fry said: “We were thrilled when the Duke agreed to become a member of our Trust. He has shown wonderful support for the care provided by our teams and spent a long time talking to staff, patients and relatives during the official opening of the roof garden for dementia patients last summer.

“Since we started inviting people to become members of our Trust 18 months ago we have had a fantastic response from a wide cross-section of people living in Derbyshire and beyond. We are well on the way to reaching 12,000 members and counting. The next step now is to appoint a Council of Governors who will work with us as we head towards becoming a Foundation Trust.”

Members have received their ballot papers and are voting on the people they wish to represent them on the Council of Governors between now and the closing date for votes on 5 March. A list of all the candidates for the Council of Governors is included on the Trust’s website.
