Around 500 parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and children alike headed to Lea Green Development Centre on Saturday 31st August for the first Family Funfest event.
The learning and development centre in Lea near Matlock, which is owned and managed by Derbyshire County Council, opened its doors to the general public for the first time ever, offering visitors the chance to try around 25 different activities.
With tickets at just £10 for a family of four, Family Funfest was an exciting and affordable end to the summer holidays for many Derbyshire families.
Activities on offer included: obstacle course; archery; high ropes course; team swing; arts and crafts; soft play and ball pool; garden games; and frisbee golf.
Ian Price, Head of Sports Outdoor and Residential Education at Derbyshire County Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the number of people who came along to the first Family Funfest. The weather held out for us, everyone had a fantastic time and we really got the chance to showcase what Lea Green does best – active, exciting and outdoor activities in a beautiful setting, and the chance to learn and develop. All our staff were really pleased to see the amount of families smiling and enjoying time together.”
Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Derbyshire County Council, said: “Lea Green welcomes thousands of children from schools across Derbyshire every year, but a lot of people don’t know about the other aspects to the centre. From adult team building activities and sports facility hire, to children’s parties and breaks for people with additional needs - there’s a lot more to Lea Green than first meets the eye. It was great to invite families to the centre for a day of active fun, and I’m very pleased so many people from far and wide enjoyed themselves.”
Plans are already being made to run the event next summer. For more information about Lea Green Learning and Development Centre visit www.derbyshire.gov.uk/leagreen, ‘like’ the centre on Facebook at www.facebook.com/leagreencentre or follow them on Twitter @leagreencentre.
