Mourners packed into a Wirksworth church to celebrate the life of one of its most interesting residents.

The funeral for Reg Dean, who died on January 5, aged 110, was held at St Mary’s Church yesterday.

The former minister of the United Reformed churches in Matlock and Wirksworth passed away having held the title of Britain’s oldest man for several years.

He had lived all over the world and was a member of the Dalesman Male Voice Choir.

Those who knew Reg will remember him for his sense of humour, warmth of character and love of animals.
