Pickpockets will go home empty handed thanks to free chains being given to shoppers.

Derbyshire Police has teamed up with Derbyshire Dales District Council to give away the brightly coloured chains when can be attached to purses and wallets to prevent them being snatched.

Police will also be increasing patrols in towns throughout the Christmas shopping period to help prevent a seasonal crime, while posters urging shoppers to take care of their belongings will be put up across the area.

The purse chains, funded by the Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership, are available from police enquiry office.
