Hook, line and sinker: Ambergate pupils offer their backing to the Derbyshire Wildlife Trusts Petition Fish campaign
TALES from the deep were told to youngsters at a village school recently as part of their project on marine life.
The children from Ambergate were visited by Tim Brooks of Derbyshire Wildlife Trust for a talk about our seas and the importance of the ocean’s wildlife. The children were also keen to sign a sparkly paper fish scale each and attach them to John Dory fish, a cardboard sea creature which is part of the trust’s Petition Fish campaign to put pressure on the UK, Scottish and Welsh Governments to create Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) – sanctuaries for sea life.
A spokesperson for the trust said: “The children did a quiz to guess how long it takes rubbish to rot away in the sea. They were amazed and shocked that it takes 500 years for plastic bags to decompose.”
