Florist gets award for charitable work
A florist has been honoured with an award for his contributions to charity over the years.
Robert Young, of Matlock Hospitals League of Friends, has been awarded the Order of Mercy, a prestigious medal, for his voluntary service over many years in the community.
As well as fund–raising for the league of friends, Robert, who owns Robert Young Florists, in Crown Square, Matlock, has dedicated himself to the Alzheimer’s Society.
He said: “I’ve been a past chairman of the League of Friends and we have raised money the Whitworth Hospital to provide nice things.
“I helped the Alzheimer’s Society because my mother suffered from the condition and most people you meet seem to know someone who has it as well.”
The awards ceremony took place at The Mansion House, in London, in the presence of The Lady Mayoress of London and the Sheriff of the City, among other distinguished guests.
Robert said: “We had a wonderful, magical day at the Mansion House.”
The Rt Hon the Lord Lingfield, President of the League of Mercy, presented him with the award.
He said: “Mr Robert Young has done extraordinary work for the welfare of others.
“He is a marvellous example of someone who has given wonderful service to his community and we were delighted to be able, on the recommendation of the charity, to make this well deserved award.”
