Food festival to reach Peak

CULINARY class will be on the menu this spring with the premier food and drink festival returning showcasing the best produce the Peak District has to offer.

Local producers and hoteliers are being urged to book their stalls early at the Peak District Food and Drink Fair In Buxton in order to avoid missing out.

The festival fortnight starts on March 17 and culminates in the Peak District Food and Drink Fair, to be hosted by the University of Derby, Buxton, in the town’s iconic Dome on the weekend of March 31 and April 1. The is part of the university’s three year ‘Extending the Season’ project financed by a grant from LEADER in the Peak District Rural Action Zone.

During festival fortnight restaurants, retailers and hoteliers will be running special offers and menus.

A spokesman for the upcoming festival said: “Last year’s event was a huge success, with over a thousand people visiting the Dome to sample and buy tasty local produce like cheeses, cakes, meat and breads.

“With the addition of a beer festival featuring locally brewed ales on tap, live music, children’s crafts, a climbing wall and a weekend packed with cookery demonstrations, the 2012 two-day event is sure to attract an even bigger crowd.

“Cookery demonstrations from local chefs and restaurants throughout the Peak District Food and Drink Fair weekend will give visitors the inspiration to take their ingredients and give some new recipes a go at home.”

So far, many of the area’s restaurants and hotels will be participating, including Taste Tideswell, Devonshire Arms, East Lodge, Casa Hotels, The School of Artisan Foods and Baslow Hall.

Any businesses interested in taking part in the festival or the two-day Peak District Food and Drink Fair should contact event organiser Emily Ibbotson on 01332 594606 or E.Ibbotson@derby.ac.uk
