Matlock residents will have no excuse not to shape up after the excesses of Christmas as a new health club is to open in the town shortly.

Parkside Gym is due to open in the Olde English Road, on January 3, offering a variety of keep–fit and personal grooming services.

To celebrate its forthcoming launch, the gym is held a charity day on Saturday featuring face painting and a bouncy castle, as well as a raffle with prizes including free membership to the gym.

Proceeds from the event went towards the Hereditary Breast Cancer helpline.

Special guest Becky Measures, radio presenter from Peak 107 FM, officially opening the health club.

The club offers both men and women facilities such as cadrio–vascular equipment, resistance machinery, free weights section and male and female changing rooms and showers. There will also be a tanning and nail salon.

Everyone is invited to attended the event on Saturday and there will be preferential rates available on membership.

Owner Dean Pratt has experience of working in the health club sector.

He said: “I just wanted a reasonably priced, friendly gym.

“I think a lot of corporate gyms are a bit cold. It’s called ‘fitness with friends’ because it’s friendly and we do as much as we can for people.”
