Gardens open to public
Garedeners in a historic Peak District village are busy putting the finishing touches to their displays, in preparation for their 12th annual celebration.
Over 20 contrasting Winster gardens, which are usually hidden from view, will be open to the public from 1.30pm to 5.30pm on Saturday July 18 and Sunday July 19.
Secret Gardens of Winster 2009 offers a wide range of features to interest the active and armchair gardener alike and also anyone who just likes a good value day out.
There will also be live jazz in the gardens, Buck's Fizz and desserts, cream teas, homemade products and refreshments and a children's gnome hunt.
There is also the chance to visit the plant and craft sales and see the Millennium Tapestry in Winster's award-winning village hall, The Burton Institute.
With gardens ranging from hillside plots to courtyards tucked away behind cottages, the event has grown in popularity over its 12 years.
Information about the ease of access to gardens for the less able will shown on a map provided.
Tickets, with the map of the gardens open to visitors, cost 3.50 for adults with free entry for accompanied children.
They are available on the day from The Market House in the centre of Main Street or at any of the car parks, from where visitors can board a free park-and-ride bus into the centre of the village.
