Get snapping for Matlock contest

Snap happy Dales folk are once more being invited to get flash for a photography competition.

The 2014 Matlock Photographer of the Year contest is now open for entries.

Matlock Town Council, which organises the annual competition, is looking for local people to submit their photographs with the theme of ‘remembrance’.

Matlock’s mayor, Councillor David Barker said: “‘The Matlock Photographer of the Year competition has been gaining popularity over the last three years with local photography clubs as well as individuals seeing its prestige, we want to encourage more young photographers to enter our Under 16 category as well.

“As this year marks the centenary of the outbreak of World War One, Matlock Town Council felt the only appropriate theme was that of ‘remembrance’.”

Entrants are invited to show off their artistic flare under the theme.

The picture should be taken within the Matlock boundary and be submitted to the town council by August 31.

The town council can provide copies of the judging criteria to help people along.

Anyone looking for advice can speak to local photographer Jonathan Christian at the Saturday Unplugged Photowalk in Hall Leys Park, in Matlock, on June 26 from 10am.

Free places for the event can be booked in advance by calling the town council on 01629 583042.

Entries for the competition can be submitted by email to projects@matlock.gov.uk or paper copies can be delivered or sent to The Imperial Rooms, in Imperial Road, Matlock.

The competition closes on August 31 and the judging will take place the following week.

Winners will be invited to a special presentation at Matlock Town Council and their pictures will be used on websites and in Matlock Town Council publications.
