A drink driver has been banned for three years after he crashed his car on the Woodhead Pass, in Glossop.

Darren Lomax admitted refusing to be breathalysed at the police station after the incident on March 31 on Woodhead Road, near the Youth Hostel Association.

The 41-year-old, who had been visiting his mother in Stalybridge, said he did not remember driving onto the grass embankment. He said he had consumed several pints of Fosters.

Lomax, of Main Street, South Hiendley, Barnsley, was given a community order consisting of a 12-month supervision requirement, a 15-day stop binge drinking course and 120 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
