A Glossop teenager smashed a restaurant window after a row with his girlfriend, a court heard.

Luke Turner admitted hitting the glass frontage of Indian restaurant Naseeb, causing it to shatter, at about 11.30pm on January 4.

The 18-year-old was sentenced at High Peak Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The manager of the restaurant on High Street West, Glossop, saw the incident happen, as he was stood at the bar. He estimated that replacing the 60 centimetre squared panes would cost £150 because the glass was etched.

The defendant, of Queens Drive, was arrested after police recovered DNA from the blood he left on the broken glass.

He said he had struck the window because he had had an argument with his girlfriend at the pub. Turner added he had not intended to damage it.

Addressing the bench, prosecutor John Cooper said: “You will no doubt recognise the defendant; he’s a regular before the youth court.

“He has a long list of previous convictions, including a number of matters of criminal damage.”

Turner was ordered to pay £150 compensation and £85 court costs.
