Grants to benefit children
GRANTS totalling more than £650,000 have been handed out by Derbyshire County Council to help disabled children enjoy leisure and outdoor activities.
Ten projects have been awarded cash to improve leisure, sports and play areas to give disabled youngsters and their families the chance to enjoy days out.
They include Hathersage Swimming Pool, which has received £4,625 for a new hoist, and £100,000 will be spent on improving access at all 24 leisure centres across the county.
Councillor Barry Lewis, Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for young people, said: “We all love to get out and about and thanks to this money more young people will be able to do just that.
“These ten projects totalling more than £655,000 will help children with disabilities and their families enjoy more leisure and outdoor activities across Derbyshire.”
A further £65,000 has been set aside to provide small grants which voluntary, community and independent organisations can bid for. Application forms are available at www.sourcederbyshire.co.uk/contracts/live.
