Growers on show

editorial image

Villagers had a bloomin’ marvellous time at a flowers and produce show at the weekend.

The event was held in Starkholmes Village Hall, in Starkholmes Road, and plenty of people turned up to see the display of locally grown produce.

Adult and children both competed in the crafts contest and there was the usual fierce competition in the Victoria sandwich cake and scone classes.

An auction was held and raised £295, which will be divided between the village hall fund and the allotment society.

Trophies were won by Phillip Lamb for his runner beans and the Holden Cup for the most entries was won by Mick and Pat Andrews, who impressed judges with their fantastic range of fruit and vegetables.

One such entry was a pumpkin, which has grown so large and heavy that it could not be lifted and instead had to be rolled around instead.
