Growth plans to help firms

THE REGION’S leading business support team has put together its plans for 2012 to help keep companies going and growing.
Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, on Canal Wharf, Chesterfield, has announced its Lobbying Priorities and aims to ensure new rules and Government policies create the right conditions for companies to flourish and grow with training.
Chamber president Ian Greenaway, who is also Chesterfield’s MTM Products managing director, said: “The theme for 2011 was a year of growth. I intend to sustain that in 2012 by campaigning to ensure any new rules and policies create the right conditions.”
The DNCC aims to support policies which reduce deficit and maintain low interest rates.
It also wants to promote manufacturing and exports, economic sustainability and champion technology and productivity with increased investment while fighting to reduce red tape.
Mr Greenaway explained he wants to showcase the potential of the region in Whitehall to develop supply chains and develop a better working infrastructure with superfast broadband connections and road improvements.
He hopes to boost training by engaging more small to medium sized companies in training and apprenticeship schemes.
Mr Greenaway added: “I want skills and training to be the main theme of my year in office with particular emphasis placed on encouraging business and education and training providers to work together in true partnership to unlock the potential of school leavers and young adults.”
DNCC also aims to team up with other British chambers to get regulation cuts, reduce companies’ national insurance and make sure they are not disadvantaged in competing for Government contracts with preferences given to local suppliers.
Mr Greenaway added: “It’s important to ensure business leaders and employees are equipped to meet the challenges of fast moving technology and the need to improve productivity.”
