Guides encourage walkers to leave car at home

Council chiefs have launched a range of walks linking the train stations along the Derwent Valley.

Derbyshire County Council has listed 12 scenic walks which can been accessed from train stations in three new guides.

The guides are aimed at encouraging walkers to leave the car at home while they experience the countryside on their doorstep.

There are walks between two and eight miles between Matlock, Cromford, Whatstandwell, Ambergate, Belper and Duffield stations.

Frequent trains run between Matlock, Derby and Nottingham and the local Derwent Valley stations.

Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport, Cllr Simon Spencer, said: “These routes give walkers a great opportunity to leave the car at home and head out to experience the beautiful Derwent Valley.”

Guides are available online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/derwentvalleymills and from Derbyshire County Council countryside centres and mills in the World Heritage Sites at a cost of 35p each.

Information on train times is available by calling National Rail Enquiries 08457 48 49 50 or visit www.nationalrail.co.uk.
