Having a ball whilst baking
Baked For Love: Isabelle Gregory, four, Alfie Everton, three, and Tyler-Rose Maycock, four with the heart-shaped biscuits they made for their Valentine's Day ball to raise money for Barnardo's.
The best way to the heart is through the stomach.
That was the idea behind a Valentine’s Day batch of baking at a Matlock nursery this week.
Tots at Treetops Nursery on Chesterfield Road baked heart-shaped biscuits at their weekly cooking club and then spent the morning handing them out to shopkeepers in the town.
In the afternoon they marked the day of love with a special ball.
Youngsters made the effort by attending in fancy dress and enjoyed music and games.
Sarah Knowles, acting manager at the nursery said: “It went really well, we had a lot of parents, friends and family here- it’s half term so we had a lot of siblings! We had a prince and princess theme and they all really enjoyed it.
“It was a great atmosphere, we had party games in the afternoon and a little disco so it was really nice.
“We asked parents to make a £1 donation for charity.”
Over £45 was raised on the day which is to go towards Barnado’s. Sarah added: “We have supported Barnado’s for nearly a year and we do different events each month to raise money for them.”
