THE headteacher of a new school which will replace a former hotel in Disley has told of his aim to transform troubled youngsters’ lives.
Michael Webster will move from Cumbria to Disley to lead the new school for vulnerable young people from September.
The school will replace the Moorside Grange Hotel and Spa which closed earlier this month and will be run by Cumbrian-based company Wings Education Ltd.
Mr Webster said: “Wings works with some of the most vulnerable and troubled youngsters in the UK aged between nine and 18 and we aim to help over 50 young people at the new site in Disley.
“In many ways we share the expectations of a mainstream school.
“However, we know that most of Wings’ youngsters have previously found school to be an unhappy experience.
“They have felt as though they have always been in trouble or getting things wrong and have needed something very special to help them regain their confidence.
“The aim of the new Wings School in Disley is to provide outstanding provision to overcome the raw deal they have been dealt through no fault of their own.”
Mr Webster added that staff would be employed locally and said he was looking forward to working in a “vibrant community”.
