Taking The Strain: Carl Prime displays amazing effort as he takes part in the Farmer's Walk challenge during the 2012 Bonsall Strongman event.
STRONG men and drag queens were the unusual combination that one Dales pub embraced.
On Saturday 11 August the Barley Mow, in Bonsall, launched its ‘Alternative Olympics’ for the second year running.
Strapping men from across Derbyshire stepped up to challenges such as the Tyre Flip, Landrover pull and the Farmer’s Walk.
Once the hard-man part was complete, out came the dresses, high-heels, lipstick and eyeliner for a drag race with a difference.
Colette Dewhurst, landlady of the Barley Mow, said: “You would be surprised by the amount of men who want to dress up in woman’s clothes!”
The Strong Man competition winner was Andy Fletcher and Carl Prime came in second place.
Colette said: “Considering it was only our second year, it went really well.
“We had a good turnout and raised over £100 for the Air Ambulance.”
