Heritage festival attracts record-breaking turnout
A RECORD 14,000 people descended on the Derwent Valley for this year’s Discovery Days Festival.
With the largest and most extensive programme ever, organisers said that people visited the event from across the globe.
With over 200 activities for visitors to choose from, the week-long festivities hosted a range of new experiences to celebrate he East Midlands’ only World Heritage Site, centred on the valley’s mills.
“The festival has been an outstanding success,” said chairman of the World Heritage Site board Cllr Andrew Lewer. “We had reports of people from as far away as Australia and the United States taking part in activities this time.”
