Hospital to stay closed to visitors for several days
breaking news
HEALTH chiefs who closed Chesterfield Royal Hospital to visitors after an outbreak of the Norovirus winter bug do not anticipate re-opening wards to the public for at least three more days.
The hospital closed four wards earlier this month but announced on Tuesday how it had been forced to close a further four and impose a ban for visitors to prevent the Norovirus from spreading further.
A hospital spokesman: “We’re unlikely to re-open our wards to visitors until Monday, February 2, because we’re looking to see out a period of at least 72 hours which is about the normal time for the condition to run its course.”
The hospital said efforts were underway to try and resolve the outbreak and it had brought in the lock-down after visitors had continued to visit the hospital despite warnings to keep away from the initially affected wards.
Members of the public who may develop symptoms including, sickness and diarrhoea are urged to call the NHS Direct phone service.
Those interested in up-dates about the hospital can keep visiting the Derbyshire Times website as well as www.chesterfield.royal.nhs.uk for details.
