Inquest opened into tragic teen’s death

NORTH Derbyshire Deputy Coroner Nigel Anderson opened an inquest on Monday, September 24, into the death of teenager Connor Short after he died in a road traffic collision.

The inquest confirmed Connor, 16, of Uppertown, Ashover, died after he was a rear-seat passenger in a car which was involved in a collision with another car at the junction of Birkin Lane and the A632 Matlock Road junction, known locally as Spancarr Crossroads, at Kelstedge, near Ashover, about 11.10pm, on Thursday, September 20.

Pc Bernard Glynn, who has taken over an investigation into the collision, told the inquest Connor had been a rear, near-side passenger in a car being driven by a friend with another friend as a front seat passenger.

The inquest, which has been adjourned for a date to be fixed, heard how Connor’s friend, of Clay Cross, had been driving along Birkin Lane and had attempted to cross over the A632 Matlock Road junction when the vehicle was in collision with a Vauxhall Corsa travelling along the A632 from Matlock to Chesterfield.
