K2 mission fundraiser
The chairman of charity branch will be heading for the world’s second tallest mountain this summer to help raise money for a special visit.
Chris Broome, of the Bonsall and Derbyshire Dales link of The Chernobyl Children’s Life Line, is planning a trek to basecamp of K2 in the Himalayas to raise sponsorship to cover the costs of the children’s four-week holiday to Britain.
Groups of youngsters still affected by the fallout of the nuclear disaster 26 years ago are invited over to stay each year with host families, but the trips costs £500 per child.
Chris said: “Just four weeks in the UK has been shown through medical testing to reduce the level of radiation in the children’s bloodstreams by 50 per cent.”
