Man suffers broken ribs in unprovoked assault

A MAN suffered broken ribs after being assaulted in Matlock at the weekend.

The 40-year-old had been walking along Imperial Road at about 1.45am on Sunday morning when he was attacked from behind.

He was close to the entrance of the Co-op car park when he heard footsteps behind him.

He says he was then kicked in the bag of the legs causing him to fall to the ground.

He was then kicked several times by a group, taking blows to the head and to his body.

Although he was unable to identify any of those that had attacked him, he told police that one of the members was wearing suede-coloured Rockport boots.

As well as breaking three ribs, he suffered bruising to his head.

He was taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital and later released.

Anyone with information is being urged to call police on the non-emergency number, 101.
