JOLLY Rogers, eye-patches and peg legs are set to be in abundance with the announcement that Matlock Live will be hosting their third Pirate Day.

The swashbuckling event is to be held in Hall Leys Park on Sunday, September 30, and attendees will get the opportunity to follow treasure trails, build boats, get dressed up as pirates and hear legendary tales from the seven seas.

To end the day there will a Pirate Parade and the fiercest pirates, scurviest cabin boy and girl, and the best parrot will be rewarded with a treasured bounty.

However, Matlock Live have further treats for their loyal crew as they have hijacked the Imperial Rooms to screen pirate films.

The Pirates in an Adventure with Scientists (PG) will be shown at 11am and 6pm and Muppet Treasure Island (U) will be screened at 2.00pm.

Tickets are available on the door at 2 gold coins for landlubbers and a special price of 1 gold coin for pirates for each film.

Phil Askham, of Matlock Live, said: “The whole day will be a lot of fun for all the family as we’ll have entertainment for children, adults and younger kids.

“If the weather is bad on the day, we’ll simply shift all of the activities into the Imperial Rooms and take the fun inside.”

Before the event, the fearsome Matlock Live crew have devised a Galleon Trail around Matlock for people to voyage on.

People can get involved with this by printing off the entry forms above this article.

Once that’s complete, swashbucklers should collect the names of all 26 ships by looking in shop windows around the town starting Saturday, September 22.

Phil said: “It get’s local businesses involved with the day and will get people looking in shops.

“I will also be trying to encourage shopkeepers to dress their windows in a pirate theme.”
