ONE Dales butcher is feasting on the opportunity to be a judge on a prestigious livestock festival.

Jon Maycock, of Robin Maycock Family Butchers and Bakers in Holloway, was chosen to be a judge on the revered East of England Smithfield Festival panel owing to his combined expertise as a butcher and a farmer.

The festival, which is being held between November 30 and December 1, takes place in Peterborough and showcases the very best commercial cattle and sheep from across the country.

Jon said: “It’s a huge honour to be invited to judge this years Smithfield Festival.

“Although, we’ve been in business for 35 years now so it’s safe to say that I know a fine quality animal when I see one.”

The winning animal from each category is automatically put into an auction for retailers to bid on and it has been known for winners to fetch £35,000.
