Motorists caught in seat belt sting
MORE than 20 drivers have been given a stark reminder to buckle-up after being caught not wearing a seatbelt during a road safety operation in Darley Dale and Wirksworth.
Local policing team officers and traffic cops joined staff from VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) and the DVLA to check cars and their drivers were road safe and legal.
The team targeted two locations on Tuesday, January 24, splitting their time between the A6 at Darley Dale and then later at Wirksworth Fire Station.
A mixture of fixed penalty notices and warnings were given to 26 people for not wearing their seat belt, five drivers for using their mobile phone and one motorist for the manner of their driving and excessive speed.
Safer Neighbourhood Team Sgt Nick Reason said: “The majority of the drivers the team dealt with were stopped for not wearing a seat belt and it is astonishing to see that there are still people who are willing to put their safety at risk by not wearing one.
“We will continue to support and work with partners to educate motorists and help keep our roads safe for everyone.”
