MOTORISTs are being urged to take care on the roads because of hazardous driving conditions.

Heavy snowfall from Saturday evening continues to cause problems on some carriageways across the Dales.

Despite most main roads remaining open, drivers are being warned to avoid smaller country lanes that have not been treated.

However, there have been issues on the M1 largely due to fog with problems in both direction between J26 and J24.

In addition, A52 Derbyshire was partially blocked this morning and slow traffic westbound between the Luke Lane junction in Brailsford and the A515 Clifton Road junction in Ashbourne, because of an accident involving a lorry in a roadside hedge.

On the A6, slow traffic was reported on the A6 Duffield Road southbound at Palm Court Island, and in South Yorkshire, there is reported slow traffic on the A57 Worksop Road in Anston at the B6060 Ryton Road junction, because of an earlier traffic light failure.

Meanwhile, Derbyshire Dales District Council has confirmed all our four leisure centres – Ashbourne, Bakewell, Matlock and Wirksworth – were operating as normal first thing Monday, though some care was needed in the car parks at Arc and at Wirksworth. All four centres were also open over the weekend.

Our household waste and recycling collection teams were operating as usual on their Monday rounds but anticipated possible issues with snow on some residential streets.

The District Council’s Bakewell Agricultural Business Centre is operating as usual, as is the Monday livestock market.

The Bakewell stall market has been set up for business as usual, though it’s expected some traders won’t make the trip, and streets team cleared Bakewell market area as a priority and are currently working on our public car parks.

Parks team are currently concentrating on clearing cemeteries of snow and ice so scheduled funerals can take place today, and the main HQ – Matlock Town Hall – is open for business is usual, as are the One-Stop Shops in Ashbourne and Bakewell.

Temperatures are set to hover around freezing point and are expected the plummet to -3C tonight.
