Musical hit for Bakewell school

Children at a Bakewell school got into character last week as Toad, Ratty, Badger and more for their end-of-term production of The Wind In The Willows.

Pupils at Bakewell Methodist Juniors School performed an afternoon showing of the musical on Wednesday, July 14 to their parents before putting on another show the following evening.

The students were involved of all aspects of preparing for the production, helping to create the colourful scenery, props and costumes.

The classic story, written by Kenneth Grahame, was first published in 1908 before it was adapted for the stage by A A Milne - of Winnie The Pooh fame - in 1929 as Toad Of Toad Hall.

Headteacher Sarah Owens said: "The play was very well received and the children and parents both really enjoyed it - we're very proud of them.

"We chose to do the Wind in the Willows because its a play published by a good publisher and the songs are good too. There were some lovely solos. "It was a delightful production."
