National Grid plans mains work in Matlock

Matlock residents and businesses are being invited to hop aboard the National Grid information bus next Wednesday (2 July) and find out more about an essential project to upgrade gas mains in the town.

National Grid will be renewing the gas main in Church Street, Matlock, to keep gas flowing to residents and businesses for decades to come. The work is due to start on Thursday 24 July and is expected to take nine weeks.

People can learn more about the project by visiting National Grid’s customer information bus, which will be parked at The Duke William pub on Wednesday 2 July, from 12 noon until 7pm.

The project will involve replacing the existing iron mains with new, hardwearing plastic pipe, which has a lifespan of 80 years if left undisturbed in the ground. To carry out the work safely it will be necessary to close sections of Church Street during the course of the project.

National Grid Authorising Engineer Paul Patrick said: “National Grid’s job is to connect people to the energy they use and this work will help to ensure safe and reliable gas supplies to businesses and residents for decades to come. We will make every effort to minimise any inconvenience caused by our work and we would be delighted to discuss the details of the project with local people on Wednesday.”

Work will start on Thursday 24 July between Matlock Green and The Duke William pub. This section will be the first phase of works with a road closure. Details of the remaining traffic management will be available in National Grid’s customer information bus.
