New homes get refused
Proposals to convert a Middleton industrial site into 47 new homes have been refused.
Councillors rejected plans to convert the vacant site – which is owned by Aggregate Industries – on Potter Lane owing to a lack of affordable housing and concerns that the village’s infrastructure would not cope with more people.
At a meeting on Thursday, October 11, Cllr Sandy Clarke of Middleton Parish Council came forward to speak against the proposals.
He said: “The proposed housing density is far too great for the site and would drastically overwhelm it. We also fear the development would generate additional traffic very close to the known accident black spot at the end of Rise End cross roads.”
In total, 14 councillors voted not to grant planning permission for the development.
