Dales people are being urged to help give special recognition to individuals and groups that make a real difference to sporting life.

Nominations are open in 12 categories for the 2014 Derbyshire Dales District Council Sports Awards until August 22.

To make nomination, complete the online form at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/sportsawards or request a paper form by telephoning the sports development team on 01629 761225.

Chairman of the District Council’s Community Committee, Councillor Jennifer Bower said: “These awards get better every year and it’s important to stress that we’re not just looking to recognise elite performers but also those people who make it possible for sport to thrive. Every local sports club relies on volunteers – that’s why the Unsung Hero category is so important, but we’re also especially keen to hear about disabled performers who have achieved success in their sport at a local level or beyond in the past year.”

Individuals, clubs and organisations in the Derbyshire Dales that win at district level go forward to the county sports awards.
