COUNCIL bosses are offering hot tips for the elderly and vulnerable to keep warm and safe as temperatures are expected to drop to minus six degrees across the East Midlands.

Derbyshire County Council is on stand-by this week after the Met Office released its cold weather warning with predictions of sub-zero temperatures.

The council is advising people to keep as warm as possible, wrap up, keep doors and windows sealed, look out for neighbours and maintain heaters.

Residents can find information about severe weather issues at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/snow or they can phone Call Derbyshire on 0845 6058 058 or (01629) 533190.
