Peak District leaders told to resist Matlock Moor wind farm
Peak Park officers have advised members to block the proposed five-turbine wind farm at Matlock Moor, despite the site being outside the Peak District.
Members were asked to "strongly urge" secretary of state for environment Hilary Benn to dismiss West Coast Energy's attempts to erect the 126-metre-high turbines.
Officers said the turbines would harm tourism and the landscape within the Peak District, and set a precedent for "unacceptable" wind farms near the park boundary. They also claimed the applicant's environmental assessment was "misleading".
A public inquiry will be launched into West Coast's plans after the firm appealed to the Government, claiming "increasing frustration" with slow councils.
West Coast Energy says its planned wind farm will provide a valuable green energy source and has the backing of many residents.
It has criticised Derbyshire Dales and North East Derbyshire district councils for failing to make a decision within 16 weeks of its bid being submitted in January.
The Peak District National Park Authority will decide whether to accept officers' recommendations at Aldern House in Bakewell, at 10am on Friday.
