Peak District photography competition

Monsal Head, Stanage Edge, the Roaches – if you can take an inspiring picture of people enjoying spectacular Peak District settings like these, you could win a national prize.

This year’s UK Association of National Park Authorities photo competition (March 18 – April 26) is based on the theme “National Parks: Actively Yours.” This means not only vigorous activities like climbing or cycling, but gentler ones such as stargazing or birdwatching.

Images may be taken in any of the UK’s 15 national parks, and the first prize of top quality outdoor footwear is being provided by Merrell, the association’s partner.

Jim Dixon, chief executive of the Peak District National Park Authority, said: “I hope the Peak District’s talented photographers, both amateur and professional, can put up a great showing in this competition.

“If amateurs need inspiration, they should pop into Bakewell Visitor Centre where our new Photo Gallery shows the magnificent work of a group of local professional photographers.”

Images must be of people actively enjoying themselves within the boundaries of one of the 15 members of the National Park family – Brecon Beacons, the Broads, Cairngorms, Dartmoor, Exmoor, Lake District, Loch Lomond & Trossachs, New Forest, Northumberland, North York Moors, Peak District, Pembrokeshire Coast, Snowdonia, South Downs or Yorkshire Dales.

Entries may be uploaded from March 18 to April 26, 2013 on www.nationalparks.gov.uk/2013nationalparksweek-photo-comp which includes photo-taking tips as well as terms and conditions.

The competition is part of a series of events culminating in National Parks Week, July 29-August 4.
