Peak MP creates buzz about bee decline

Andrew Bingham MP backs British bees at Westminster. 15th January 2013. 125 MPs attended the event from 6 different political parties. 85 MPs also signed up to support a national bee action plan.

HIGH Peak MP Andrew Bingham is raising awareness about the plight of the British bee.

The politician met with environmental campaigners from Friends of the Earth last Thursday to draw attention to the “alarming” decline in UK bee numbers.

Mr Bingham said: “I am very concerned about the rapid decline in British bees.

“They’re an iconic part of our countryside and they play a vital role in pollinating our crops and flowers.

“I was pleased to meet with Friends of the Earth who are creating a buzz about these crucially important insects.

“I’ll be doing what I can to help protect our bees in 2013.”

Last year Friends of the Earth launched its Bee Cause campaign to raise awareness about the plight of the insects.

Friends of the Earth’s executive director Andy Atkins said: “I’m delighted Mr Bingham is showing support for Britain’s threatened bees.

“They are under severe threat and need all the support they can get.”
