Peak Park awarded increase in grant funding from government
THE Peak Park is to benefit from a 2.75 per cent rise in its Government grant, which will fund multi-million pound schemes to combat climate change.
The authority's overall budget for 2010/11 will be 8.7million, following the rise in the grant it receives from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
From April 2010 to April 2011, it will fund the 5.5million Moorlife project, which aims to restore 2,000 acres of peat moorland, and the 2.25million Pedal Peak District cycling project.
The money will also pay for 250 ranger walks, the handling of 1,200 planning bids and education courses for more than 14,000 children.
Chairman Narendra Bajaria said: "We're grateful that ministers at the department have decided to increase our grant for 2010/11 in such difficult financial times.
"Ministers have told us that this reflects the importance of the work national parks are doing on issues like climate change and supporting the rural economy."
The Peak District National Park Authority Sustainable Development fund will have 200,000 to donate to environmental, educational and social projects.
