Pit profile exhibition
Robin Hall stands by the new Pit Profiles exhibition at Peak District Mining Museum in Matlock Bath
Visitors to Matlock Bath can see a different side of coal mining thanks to a new exhibition of artwork inspired by the industry.
The Peak District Mining Museum, in The Grand Pavilion, will host Pit Profiles – Re–profiled.
Robin Hall, from the museum, said: “People are often surprised to find close links between coal mining and art.
“When the industry was nationalised in 1947, the National Coal Board (NCB) began its own collection. The NCB held competitions and commissioned artists.”
“Pit Profiles – Re–profiled is the result of a project jointly funded by the National Coal Mining Museum for England and Arts Council England.”
The exhibition can be viewed between 11am and 3pm between Wednesday and Sunday until March 31, and then every day from 10am until 5pm until April 30 with free admission.
