Plans have been unveiled to treble the size of Furness Vale Marina to accommodate almost 40 more canal boats.

The application for the Station Road harbour, submitted by owner Richard Purcell, is due to be decided by High Peak Borough Council’s planning committee on March 17.

The proposal includes a redevelopment and expansion of moorings along the upper Peak Forest Canal and the construction of an ancillary building and associated landscaping.

The first phase of the development involves creating a new offline section to the north of the marina, away from the main line of the canal in a lay-by, on an adjacent field with a moorings for 35 boats.

A new ancillary ablutions block, with six showers, six toilets, a disabled toilet and a laundry room, and 32 car parking spaces to service the marina would also be provided.

The second phase of the scheme would involve realigning and reconfiguring the online moorings of the marina, on the main line of the canal, in order to bring it further offline and create an additional three berths.

At present, the marina has the capacity for 21 boats.

The realignment of the existing northern gate of will form a new road connection through between the two sections, whilst maintaining vehicular access across the track that proceeds onto the swing bridge.
