Police launch hunt after 90-year-old woman’s house is burgled

Police are searching for three men who burgled an elderly woman’s house in Whitwell.

At about 3pm on Saturday, a 90-year-old woman returned to her home in Thorpe Avenue to find a man in the garden.

She challenged him and he and two other men ran off towards Franklin Avenue.

Once she got into her house, she discovered that a bedroom window had been damaged and the house ransacked.

At this stage it is not thought that anything has been stolen.

The man she challenged is described as white, in his late 20s and about 5ft 7ins tall. He has short hair and is of medium build.

All three men had scarves around the lower part of their faces.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
