Police offer advice to Land Rover owners
A crime prevention day is being held in a bid to reduce the number of vehicle thefts in the Dales.
Derbyshire Police is inviting Land Rover Defender owners to the event at Carsington Water Visitors Centre between 10am and 2pm on Sunday, September 23.
Any Defender driver whose vehicle registration details prove they live in the Derbyshire Dales can buy subsidised steering wheel locks or take advantage of free security marking.
They can also enter a free prize draw to win security items, donated by various companies.
Crime reduction officer PC Bob Fox said: “Defenders are often targeted by thieves who want to strip them and sell them for parts, which is why marking your vehicle can be an effective deterrent. Marking high-value parts with UV fluid also helps us to prosecute offenders.
“I would urge owners to take measures to protect their vehicles. Many owners have had their Defenders for years and they may not have considered installing the latest security devices.
“By coming along to our event at Carsington, not only will you get your vehicle marked but you will get an idea of some of the security items that are currently available.”
