Police set out their priorities for Wirksworth and Middleton

Officers will continue to focus on nuisance vehicles, problem parking and anti-social behaviour for the next three months in Wirksworth and Middleton.

The policing priorities for the area were extended as residents raised no new concerns during the meeting which was held on Wednesday, January 15.

The Safer Neighbourhood team will be putting the brakes on nuisance vehicles and parking problems on Canterbury Road, Wood Street and Wash Green.

As part of the crackdown, officers will be increasing patrols and also monitoring speeding issues by holding Community Speed Watch events across the area after the problem was raised at the October 2013 Safer Neighbourhood governance meeting.

The tackle anti-social behaviour, the team will be increasing patrols through the town centre at key times to identify and take action against any offenders.

Police will be identifying any individuals or groups taking part in ASB to engage with them about the impact of their behaviour on others, and how any subsequent action such as ASBOs can have long-lasting consequences.

Officers will also be interacting with youngsters to deter them from anti-social behaviour and to encourage them to take part in diversionary activities offered by partners such as Derbyshire Dales District Council and the Youth Service, or schemes such as the police’s OzBox initiative.

The team will be urging members of the public and licensees to report any incidents of anti-social behaviour or crimes as they happen by calling 101, 999 in an emergency or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Residents are invited to attend the next Safer Neighbourhood Governance meeting to help set policing priorities on Wednesday, April 30. The meeting will be held at Wirksworth Town Hall from 5.30pm.

To find out more or to speak to the team, call 101.
