Region hit by strong winds and traffic delays

SEVERE gales and winds which reached speeds of up to 90mph have caused a lorry to over turn and have felled trees causing long traffic delays in Derbyshire.
Emergency services issued warnings after a lorry over-turned on the A628 Woodhead Pass between Flouch roundabout, at Langsett, and the Gun Inn traffic lights, at Glossop, and the road had to be closed.
There was also a felled tree on the A5012 Via Gellia Road, at Bonsall, causing a closure in both directions between Clatterway junction and the B5023 junction.
Robin Hood Road, at Whatstandwell, became closed around the B5035 Main Road junction because of a fallen tree and police had to direct traffic.
The M1 southbound carriageway between junctions 30 and 29, near Chesterfield, also suffered slow moving traffic and the A38 suffered queuing traffic.
Weather experts said the region had suffered strong, blustery winds yesterday and during the morning but conditions are expected to improve throughout the day.
