Return of the rider

A MATLOCK cyclist has returned triumphantly from a ride that took him nearly 2,000 kilometres across Europe in four days.

Mike Blair, owner of PeliDeli in Crown Square, was part of a 17-strong group riding to raise cash for charity and to honour the memory of MotoGP star Marco Simoncelli – who was killed during a race on October 23, 2011.

The ride began with a lap of honour around Donnigton Park on September 9 in front of thousands of spectators.

Mike said: “It was such a special moment. Everybody was cheering for us and it was a great start to the ride.”

The route took Mike through France, Switzerland and Italy and took it’s toll on the riders – who had to endure severe weather and adhere to strict times.

Mike said: “It’s one of the best experiences of my life and we’ve raised thousands for charity now.”
