Rubbish service for residents
A GROUP of Matlock residents who haven’t had their bins emptied for five weeks have hit out at the ‘appalling’ service offered by the district council.
To make matters worse for the residents of Rockside Hall, they haven’t even managed to voice their concerns to the council directly – until the Mercury raised the issue on their behalf, that is.
Ralph Goodson said: “We have two dedicated bin stores and the collections from one of them have stopped completely. Our residents bring their refuse to the bin store to find the bins overflowing.”
Ralph has tried ringing Derbyshire Dales District Council on numerous occasions and has never managed to speak to anybody.
Despite leaving messages on the answer phone – as well as other residents trying to make contact – no council representative had responded to the concerns.
Mike Coates said: “I pay £1,500 in council tax a year and this service is just not good enough.”
The district council has apologised ‘unreservedly’ to the residents of Rockside Hall apartments for any inconvenience caused.
A spokesman said: “We accept that the district council’s helpline has been extremely busy because, despite lots of information being made available in different formats, some residents will always prefer to talk things through on the phone.”
A council representative has now been to see residents at Rockside Hall to explain their recycling options, when rubbish collections are to take place and to make sure they are all fully briefed on the changes to waste collection the council has made.
The spokesman added: “For anyone with internet access we would recommend accessing the wealth of information at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/waste including frequently asked questions, an A-Z guide of what goes into which containers, an explanatory web video and a postcode calendar search.”
